The Joy of Serving Others
(Mark 10:45)
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The Heart of the Christian Life
Service is at the very heart of the Christian life. In a world that often tells us to seek recognition, comfort, and personal success, Jesus offers a different path—one marked by humility, compassion, and self-giving love.
When we look at the life of Christ, we see that He did not lead from a distance. He touched the untouchable, fed the hungry, welcomed the outcast, and even knelt to wash His disciples’ feet. In doing so, He showed us that true greatness is found not in being served, but in serving others.
Serving is not always convenient. It may interrupt our plans, stretch our patience, or call us beyond our comfort zone. Yet, it is in those very moments that God shapes our hearts. When we serve, we begin to see others as God sees them—not as interruptions, but as opportunities to share His love.
Service also transforms us. A simple act of kindness—a meal shared, a hand held, a word of encouragement—can become a sacred moment where God’s presence is revealed. In serving others, we often discover that we receive far more than we give: joy, purpose, and a deeper connection to Christ.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to live this out daily—not just in grand gestures, but in small, faithful acts of love. Whether it is helping a neighbor, volunteering in ministry, or offering a listening ear, every act of service becomes a reflection of God’s grace.
Today, ask yourself: Who can I serve?
The answer may be closer than you think.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to serve as You served.
Open my eyes to the needs around me and give me a willing heart to respond. Help me to love not only in words, but in action and truth. May my life reflect Your compassion, and may others see You through all I do. Amen.
